The Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus was founded in Lagos, Nigeria in 1943 by Archbishop Leo Hale Taylor. He was an Irish American, a member of the Society of African Missions and the Archbishop of Lagos at the time. The purpose of our foundation is to have educated African Sisters of great missionary power, whose life and dedication is rooted in the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. The Congregation has about 200 members and attained Pontifical Status in 2008.
The Halifax community was opened in November 2000 at the invitation of Archbishop Terrence Prendergast, SJ. The Congregation was happy to extend its missionary activity outside the shores of Nigeria for the first time. Our community in Halifax has brought blessings to many as the sisters bring their life of devotion to the Eucharist in their various apostolates- pastoral, social and outreach programs. The people of Halifax have opened their hearts as well to them. Our mission in Halifax is a wonderful experience of the blend of African and Canadian cultures.
The Sisters have Mass every Saturday morning at the convent. Coffee and hospitality follow after Mass. You are welcome to attend.
