Sisters  Host Mass and Day of Prayer in Preparation for the 49th

                                                                        Eucharistic Congress

                                      June 15th-22nd2007 in Quebec.

The Year 2007 was indeed a very special year-in the diocese of Halifax. We celebrated the installation of our new Archbishop-Anthony Mancini on November 29th and not long after it was time to rejoice again as the Eucharistic Congress was to be held in Quebec-Canada. And so it was that our new Bishop Mancini asked Sr. Anne Marie what the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus- were doing to prepare for the Congress.  This question prompted the Sisters to organize a day of prayer for the Congress, on April 12, 2008

The day began with Mass presided by Archbishop Mancini.  After the mass, the faithful gathered in the church hall which was nearly filled to capacity-refreshments were served. Sr. Anne Marie shared her experience of the Eucharist and the charism of the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus and then invited the Archbishop who gave a key note address.

Archbishop Mancini stressed the necessity of returning to basics of the faith in order to understand the Eucharist as a gift.”We have forgotten what it is.” We actually take it for granted. To rediscover the Eucharist we must first discover who Jesus Christ is. You can’t appreciate a gift if you don’t know the giver. The Eucharist is only a gift if you appreciate who God is and what he does for us. If people grapple with who Jesus Christ is for them, they will also come to terms with a fuller understanding of themselves and what it means to be made, “in the image and likeness of God”

After a light lunch and time to socialize- we took time for Eucharistic Adoration  which ended with the prayer of the Congress. We all left- spiritually nourished and excited about the events that were about to occur. Thanks to the Sisters for giving us that opportunity to grow in our Faith.
